“What am I here for, why do I exist?”

Psalm 139"14-16

Have you ever wondered about that; maybe even asked these questions from time to time concerning your life? 

God made you and He created you for a purpose, so for us to find out what we are here for or why we exist, we must go to the creator for the answer, right?  Colossians 1:16 tells us “For everything, absolutely everything above and below, visible and invisible…everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him.” You were born by His purpose for His purpose. In Psalm 139:14-16 God says we are…fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

You were wonderfully made by God and for God, for His purpose. He knew you before you were born, that is truly amazing when you think about it. So then what is our purpose?

Your purpose is…

1. To worship Him: We were created to worship God to honor Him with our lives.
2. To serve Him: We were created to serve God with our lives.

But until one comes to know God through Jesus Christ they will never know their true purpose in life. You can only discover your true identity and purpose through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Once you come to know Him you will begin to discover your true purpose and why you exist. In the popular country song the artist says “I want to talk about me” giving the impression that life is all about me, you have heard it said look out for number 1, take care of yourself first, all I want to do is please me, myself, and I. The truth is, it is not about you. It is however all about Him (Jesus).  The Apostle Paul said “I have been crucified with Christ it is not longer I who live but Christ lives in me”. Paul was saying that it is not about me but all about Him. I was created by Him for Him. My life will be lived out for the Son of God who died for me on the cross and shed His blood for me, not for my own selfish worldly pursuits. Living for self satisfies for only a moment.

This life is not all that there is! We were placed on earth by God to prepare us for eternity. So the question I want to ask you is this. Do you know Jesus? When you come to know Jesus and His saving grace you will come to understand better your purpose in life. Jesus said that His purpose was to “Seek and to save that which was lost” we were created to share that message to a world that needs to know Jesus and His love.

Without God life just does not make sense, tragically, many people will have to endure eternity without God because they chose to live without Him here on earth. You exist; you are here, you were created by God for God to fulfill His purpose through you, and all because He loves you so much.
